Prominent rabbis endorse Timmerman

Kensington, MD – Oct 25, 2012 – Prominent rabbis and Jewish community leaders have endorsed Republican candidate Ken Timmerman’s campaign in Maryland’s new 8th District to defeat incumbent Democrat Rep. Chris Van Hollen, Jr.

In a letter addressed to Jewish community leaders and fellow rabbis in Maryland, Rabbi Jonathan Hausman urged them to “consider making an important contribution to the future of the Jewish people in both America and Israel by supporting Ken Timmerman” against Van Hollen.

Joining Rabbi Hausman in supporting Timmerman’s campaign were Rabbi Bernhard Rosenberg, a prominent Democrat who has founded “Rabbis for Romney,” Dr. Richard L. Rubenstein, one of America’s top rabbinical scholars, and a host of local Jewish community leaders.

Rabbi Hausman will join the Timmerman campaign on Monday, Oct. 29, for a full day bus tour and campaign rallies across the new 8th District.

The complete text of Rabbi Hausman’s letter is here.

Rabbi Hausman described Timmerman as a “human rights advocate and longtime fighter for Israel,” and attributed Van Hollen’s drop to below 48% in the polls to his “record of non-support for Israel.”

Incumbents who have polled under 50% this late in the election cycle have a 70% chance of being defeated, according to political analyst and author John Fund

In a previous run for office in 2000, Timmerman was endorsed by famed Nazi hunter Simon Wiesenthal, who wrote: “You bring knowledge, wisdom, and courage to the political arena.”

Also on Wednesday, the Washington Examiner endorsed Timmerman for Congress in Maryland's 8th District. "The Examiner endorses Timmerman for the same reason Van Hollen has been dodging debates with him: He is articulate, cosmopolitan and courageous -- the real deal," the Examiner editors wrote.
